For today’s #ArtistWednesday post, we’re featuring Max Weber. Born in Poland in 1881, Weber was one of the first American cubists. He moved to America in his childhood but traveled Europe through his early adulthood, where he became immersed in the avant-garde movement. He met, befriended, and was influenced by many French and fellow American modernist artists before returning to New York in 1909. . Our collection contains examples from his early career, from a drawing from 1907 to this graphite print from 1918. . Max Weber, The Discussion, 1918, Carnegie Museum of Art [Image Description] An abstract, cubist artwork featuring layered faces.
