This portrait of Isabella de' Medici was thought to be a fake, but through research our conservator realized it had been painted over and altered (swipe to see the pre-conservation version). She carefully restored the painting to its original state, which you can now see in the Scaife galleries. . Each painting in our collection has a story. In 2017, we installed an exhibition called Created, Collected, Conserved, which explores the history and conservation of seven paintings from the Northbrook Collection in England. By combining interactive technology with centuries-old portraits, the exhibition traces the ways that history shapes culture. . Attributed to Alessandro Allori, Portrait of Isabella de' Medici, ca. 1570–1574, Carnegie Museum of Art, Gift of Mrs. Paul B. Ernst. #CMOAcollects #Medici
