WaterWorld: A Live Sea War Spectacular is a show inspired by the 1995 film WaterWorld and can be experienced at Universal Studios Hollywood (1995), Universal Studios Japan (2001), and Universal Studios Singapore (2010). The original show opened concurrently with the movie. Although the film was a critical and financial disappointment, the live performance received widespread acclaim. It earned a 1996 Thea Award from the Themed Entertainment Association and continues to be highly rated by park guests.
Adapted by Ben Hurst, the show’s storyline occurs after the movie’s events. It begins with Helen returning from "Dryland" to rescue her friends from the "Atoll". It features characters such as Helen, the Deacon, and the Mariner, along with various "Atollers" and "Smokers." The 16-minute performance includes stunts executed on water, on land, and even overhead, supported by an array of pyrotechnic, flame, water, and other special effects—including the explosive crash landing of a seaplane....
