For nearly two decades, Mike Modano stood alone as the NHL’s all-time American-born points leader — a standard unmatched since it was set in 2007. Narrated by Trevor Thompson, this feature retraces Modano’s remarkable journey from youth hockey in Michigan to becoming the face of an NHL franchise, a Stanley Cup champion, and one of the most dynamic American players the game has ever seen. Drafted first overall in 1988, Modano combined elite speed, vision, and scoring ability to redefine what was possible for American-born stars in the NHL. Patrick Kane sits just four points away from surpassing Modano’s record — a mark that has stood for 19 years. While Kane’s pursuit represents the evolution of the game, Modano’s legacy remains the foundation upon which today’s American scorers were built. Watch your local teams!
