Dr. William Rush Dunton, Jr. often encouraged needlework for occupational therapy. He believed “it was an occasion for displaying one’s deftness with the needle,” and Maryland Historical Society staffer Emily Somach shows her own crochet skills with these adorable cacti and succulents. “While I have been busy during the week with work (as I am lucky enough to still have my job, and to be able to do most of it from home) I do have a lot of free time now in the evenings and weekends. Crocheting has become a nice way to occupy my time, and the repetitiveness of it is rather therapeutic and meditative. I hope to make more as gifts for family and friends, and to add to my own little growing garden as well.” What’s helping you get through?
