Valentine's Day may be over, but it's still February! Here's another visitor favorite from this year's #HeartsForArts initiative. Lady Baltimore received a whole lot of love from her city. For nearly two hundred years, she watched over Calvert Street between Baltimore's downtown courthouses. Erected in 1822, the 8-foot tall statue honors the soldiers who lost their lives during the War of 1812. Lady Baltimore found a new home with us in Mount Vernon in 2013. The full marble statue was relocated to the Maryland Historical Society to shield her from outside elements that would have slowly worn away her features. We are so grateful to have the privilege of preserving Lady Baltimore for generations to come! #marylandhistory #knowyourhistory #baltimore #arthistory #art #warof1812 #history
