You may not realize it, but a lot of work goes into preparing a dress for display! The mannequin has to be carved down, stuffed, and padded to fit not only the dress, but the appropriate silhouette of the time period. For this dress from c.1950, intern Emily Bach had to create the curved shoulder, nipped waist, and voluminous skirt of the "New Look" popularized by Dior in 1947. This lets us show how the dress would have looked when it was originally worn. Scroll through to see the process from start to finish! And you can see it in person at our annual meeting next Wednesday, June 28th from 6-8PM. Dress made by Hutzler Brothers Co, Baltimore. 1984.27.3 Gift of Mrs. Campbell Lloyd Stirling. #museumweek2017 #museumweek #storiesmw #womenmw #fashionhistory #fashion #vintage #vintagedress #vintageclothing #1950s #1950sfashion #1950sdress #diornewlook #hutzlers #hutzlerbros #hutzlerbrothers
