What does it take to turn art into action? âđ˝In 2012, artist Melanie Cervantes was invited to create a poster for a Spanish-language newspaper connected to the Occupy movementâsomething that would move people out of their routines and into the streets for May Day. Drawing inspiration from historic labor posters, she reimagined their bold, forward-looking figures to reflect a present-day, multiracial working-class movementâgrounded together, looking ahead, and backed by a growing crowd.â
â
This International Workersâ Day, we look to Cervantesâ message: May 1 isnât just a dateâitâs a call to show up, stand together, and be seen.â
