Today is Purple Heart Day, in honor of when George Washington recognized a small number of Soldiers on this date in 1792 with the Badge of Military Merit, the first American military award. The award wasn't awarded again until 1932 when it was revived on the 200th anniversary of Washington's birthday. Today the Purple Heart recognizes service members who were wounded or killed in combat. A Purple Heart belonging to Sgt. Jack Post is on display at the Idaho Military History Museum History Museum. Post was the first Idahoan killed during the Korean War on Aug. 7, 1950. #purpleheart💜 #purpleheart #korea #purpleheartday #kia #killedinaction #americanhero #idahomilitaryhistorymuseum #idahohistory #idaho #soldier
