May 5th might be Cinco de Mayo but it is also Museum Lover’s Day! Considering the Sacramento History Museum is, after all, a museum, we couldn’t pass this day up. For today, Jared letterpress printed an image from a modern photo engraving based on a lithograph of Sacramento’s Waterworks building from 1857. Our museum is housed in a reconstruction of that building, which was originally built at the corner of I and Front Streets in 1854. The text accompanying the building states, “I ❤️ Sacramento History Museum” and was typeset in 36 point Cheltenham Bold Condensed font. We typically take this form when we attend outreach events with our Provisional tabletop press. This was printed with reflex blue rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was manufactured in 1852. For those who love museums, what is your favorite museum? #SacHistoryMuseum #museumloversday #cincodemayo #typography #letterpress #museum #sacramento #printing #printingpress
