If you visit our park grounds, you will see we have a lot of California native plants in bloom this time of year! In this video, Theresa takes a look at our state flower currently in bloom on the park grounds of the State Indian Museum and Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. The flower, of course, is Eschscholzia californica, otherwise known as the California poppy. Theresa also discussed the plant’s distinctive characteristics and traditional California Native uses. Since 1903, the California poppy has been our state flower and since 2010, with the passing of Senate Bill 944 (37222.12), the CA Legislature designated every April 6th as California Poppy Day. Learn more about the native plants on our park grounds at our Celebrate Earth Day event on April 18th! #californiapoppy #stateindianmuseum #suttersfort #castateparks #learnontiktok
