If you visit our park grounds, you will see a variety of California native plants and, while many are dormant in the winter, some bloom this time of year. In this video, Theresa discusses the manzanitas, which can be found on the park grounds of the State Indian Museum and Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park just east of the museum. Theresa also discussed the plant’s distinctive characteristics, its role as a food source this time of year for pollinators, how it grows, and traditional California Native uses. While the manzanita berries are edible, we save them for the park’s wildlife. #manzanita #nativeplants #suttersfort #stateindianmuseum #castateparks
