At Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, the staff and volunteers are very familiar with the Cooper Shop room on display, but not when we see a Cooper’s hawk as a visitor. In this video, Mark discussed the Cooper’s hawk who was perched on top of the flagpole on a rainy day. He was perched there for over 45 minutes observing the other visitors. Cooper’s hawks prefer wooded areas, including forests and river groves, but they have also adapted to suburban and urban environments. The tall trees on our park grounds make great resting spots. As a reminder when you see wildlife in an urban park, keep your distance and be respectful. They want to enjoy the park just as much as we do. #suttersfort #castateparks #sacramento #coopershawk #hawk
