When you visit our park grounds, we have a lot of flora and fauna to see! In this edition of Mark in the park, Mark takes a look between the CA State Indian Museum and Sutter’s Fort at our Camellia tree just west of the pond. While much of the park grounds have California native plants, this one is not but is very connected to our city. On February 9, 1852, James Lloyd Laffeyette Franklin Warren sold the first camellia flower seeds, from a shipment he received two days prior, at his New England Seed Store on J Street between Front and Second Streets in what is today Old Sacramento State Historic Park. Warren is credited with introducing camellias to Sacramento. In the 1920s, Sacramento was dubbed the "Camellia City of the World" and in 1941 the camellia became the official flower of the city. Make sure to stop by soon and see our camellia tree and other trees and plants in full bloom! #onthisday #camellia #suttersfort #stateindianmuseum #castateparks #history #sacramento #museum #sac...
