January 6th is National Technology Day! It is a day to recognize technological innovations of the past, how technology helps to change the world today, and how it can affect the future. Sacramento is home to a variety of technological innovations of the mid-1800s including telegraph, railroad, and municipal innovations. In addition to showing simply the technology of our printing press, for today, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) showing various forms of transportation that were available in the 1890s in Sacramento. This includes walking, riding a horse, various wagons and stagecoaches, and a street car. This is from the Lewis Winter Collection. This was printed with red oil base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalTechnologyDay #sacramento #museum #History #letterpress #printingpress #asmr #printing
