February 18th is National Battery Day! This day recognizes importance of batteries in powering daily life and keeping people safe and connected. It is observed on February 18th because on this day in 1745 Alessandro Volta was born. He is credited with inventing the electric battery in 1800. For today, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype, made in the late 1950s, are from the Stockton High School Print Shop Collection. The print depicts a Flying A brand car engine battery. Flying A was also an oil and gasoline company that originated in Central California. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. • • • #NationalBatteryDay #battery #powerofthepress #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum #history #letterpress #printingpress #asmr #printing #oldsacramento #printmaking
