December 9th is National Christmas Card Day! This day serves as a reminder to get your cards, envelopes, and stamps all together to send out your holiday cards. For today, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) that depicts a scene in the mid-1800s with the words “CHRISTMAS GREETINGS.” This would have originally been used in a printing office 90-100 years ago for printing Christmas cards. This was printed with green rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. Looking for a last minute Christmas card? We have printed this image on some greeting cards, which are available in our museum store! Also, Howard and Jared just finished printing our museum holiday cards! Videos of that letterpress printing project are coming soon! • • • #ChristmasCardDay #greetingcard #holidaycard #holidayseason #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum #history #letterpress #printingpress #printing #oldsacramento #letterpressprinting #printmaking
