Happy 64th birthday to Fairytale Town! On August 29, 1959, the “storybook park” located in William Land Park, known as Fairytale Town, opened to the public. Fairytale Town was first conceived in 1956 after the initial success of Disneyland. More than 17,000 people visited during the opening weekend. Fairytales, nursery rhymes, and many classic children’s stories come to life in this Sacramento park and the life of those stories continue to this day. In honor of today, Howard letterpress printed an image from a woodcut in the Lewis Winter Collection. This hand carved woodcut was made by Lewis Winter in the 1890s. This is one of the closest woodcuts we have to the Old Woman In The Shoe attraction at Fairytale Town. #SacHistoryMuseum #fairytaletown #sacramento #museumtok #onthisday #getcultured
