August 11th is Mountain Day! For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from a woodcut from the Lewis Winter Collection. Lewis Winter hand carved this woodcut in the 1890s. Although most of the Lewis Winter Collection contains letterpress cuts designed for advertising in local newspapers, there are some woodcuts of nature scenes in Northern California. We could determine that this woodcut depicts Lake Tahoe, which means those are the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background. We think we have reached the peak of printing content so it’s all downhill from here. #SacHistoryMuseum #MountainDay #sierranevada #printing #getcultured #museumtok
