We often observe many national “holidays” on social media. It is one of the ways we can highlight and give relevance to an item in our museum, especially our print shop exhibit. For example, November 7th is National Hug A Bear Day! For today, Howard letterpress printed a hand carved woodcut from the Lewis Winter Collection, which was made roughly 130 years ago. This woodcut depicts a not so huggable California Grizzly bear. This is one of many cuts of Grizzly bears in our print shop, because, after all, it is California’s state animal. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. • • • #HugABearDay #grizzlybear #bear #woodcut #ink #museum #history #sacramento #asmr #printingpress #letterpress #printing #printmaking #oldsacramento #oldsac #sachistorymuseum
