On October 9, 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was established in the Swiss Capital of Bern. The UPU is the second oldest international organization in the world and it sets the rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in mail services. The anniversary of the UPU is celebrated as World Post Day and it is a United Nations observance. For today, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) that was made in the 1930s. The image depicts a mail carrier holding a large letter. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. • • • #onthisday #todayinhistory #WorldPostDay #postalworker #mailcarrier #mailman #letter #powerofthepress #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum #history #letterpress #printingpress #asmr #printing #printmaking #oldsac #oldsacramento
