May 13th is National Train Day this year! It is observed on the closest Saturday to the anniversary (May 10) of the the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. For today, Jared letterpress printed one of our many cuts of a locomotive. This print is available as part of the Sacramento prints bundle in our store! This was printed using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press. The first railroad company incorporated in California was the Sacramento Valley Railroad, founded in August 1852. However, it wasn’t until February 12, 1855 that construction began on the rail line, starting at R and 3rd Streets. The rail line to Folsom was finished on February 22, 1856. #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalTrainDay #train #locomotive #trains #museumtok #letterpress
