August 13th is International Left Handers Day! For today, Howard letterpress printed a hand carved woodcut, made roughly 130 years ago, from the Lewis Winter Collection. The pointing hand is typographically referred to as a manicule, index, or fist and it would be used to help indicate something important in the newspaper or another publication.this image of a gloved pointing left hand was printed with rhodamine red rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. • • • #InternationalLeftHandersDay #lefthandersday #lefthanded #red #woodcut #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum #history #letterpress #printingpress #asmr #oddlysatisfying #printing #oldsacramento #printmaking
