September 12th is National Day of Encouragement. This day is dedicated to making a positive impact on folks and uplifting the people around us. Howard thinks that seeing your name printed is encouraging. For today, Howard printed his name from a Ludlow casting made by Howard’s uncle when he worked in the stereotype department at the Oakland Tribune newspaper. Ludlow slugs like this one shown in the video are cast using a Ludlow Typograph machine. Ludlow Typograph machines cast lines of type from hand set matrices and cast larger font sizes unlike the ordinary Linotype, which was limited to faces smaller than 24 point. We hope you share some encouragement with the people you interact with today! @sachistorymuseum #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalDayOfEncouragement #encouragement #printingpress #sacramento #letterpress #ludlow #printing
