My new violet backed starling cushion design! I’ve done print tests on both velvet and linen so far. Surprisingly, the colours come out better on the linen than the velvet, but I love the texture and shine of the velvet with these birds. More tests necessary I think, before I can make a final decision. Do I compromise colour for the fabric, or fabric for the colour?? Sometimes making that final call is so hard! One of the biggest things I’ve learnt about design and textile printing is that so often you have to work out a compromise. The printed colour sometimes matches your artwork precisely and sometimes it bears almost no relationship to it - so much depends on inks, printing method and the fabric.
