Blessed Dalmatius Moner, Confessor, was born of well respected, prayerful parents in Catalonia, in A.D. 1291. He was set apart from childhood for his innocence and piety. After receiving an education at Girona and the University of Montpellier, he entered the Dominican Order at age 25. He taught for many years and humbly resigned to live in caves, in constant prayer, fasting, and penitence, at one point not even drinking for 20 consecutive days in the Spanish summer’s heat. He rarely ate anything other than vegetables (mostly raw), and would sleep on the bare ground amidst serpents. During prayer, he would often be found in ecstasy, as high in the air as the tops of the trees, where the angels would chant the Benedicte at Lauds with him, also administering to his needs throughout his penitential life.
Bl. Dalmatius Moner, pray for us!
