Helicopter transportation is available for patients within city areas, when time and distance affect ground transportation time to a trauma or burn center. When sufficient ambulances are unavailable, or when patients are in locations inaccessible to ground units, helicopter transportation are considered. Medical Evacuation helicopters in our system are capable of carrying only one patient who is in serious medical or traumatic condition. Additional helicopters could be requested for incidents involving multiple patients who are in serious medical or traumatic condition. We have a crew assigned to managing the landing zone, which must be a relatively flat area and free of obstructions for an area of at least 100’ X 100’ for each helicopter.
