The FTC just put a damper on next month’s Prime Day. Earlier today, the agency sued Amazon for intentionally tricking consumers into signing up for its Prime subscription service, and knowingly sabotaging attempts at canceling. In a statement, the FTC said, “Amazon tricked and trapped people into recurring subscriptions without their consent, not only frustrating users but also costing them significant money.” Among other claims, the lawsuit notes Amazon made it difficult for users to purchase items without a Prime subscription, and added a button near the end of some transactions that signed users up for Prime without their knowledge. The lawsuit comes after a two-year investigation into Amazon’s Prime service by the FTC. #amazon #amazonprime #FTC #lawsuit #businessnews
