We can’t bee-lieve these bee-riffic bumble butts. From coast to coast, the American bumblebee is part of the fabric of U.S. grasslands and open spaces. This bootylicious bee was once the most commonly observed bee in the United States. Its powers of pollination nourished ecosystems and sustained crops. Sadly, as agriculture and urban expansion have degraded and destroyed open spaces, American bumblebees have started disappearing. We’re working to protect these insects and their habitat from pesticides, development and other threats. There’s a lot to do for native bees, but during #NationalPollinatorWeek, even we can’t resist taking a minute to celebrate these pollinators — and their fuzzy little rumps.
