In Las Vegas, the Clark County School District Police Department is on pace to surpass last year’s number of confiscated firearms within the school system.
Since the school year started in August, the department has seized 42 guns.
Students
A recent incident involved a Canarelli Middle School student who was arrested for possessing a gun on campus, an offense that mandates expulsion under district policies.
Parents
Adults have been responsible for over half of the firearms retrieved by school police, with two instances of parents being arrested on school grounds for carrying loaded guns.
With 22 of the confiscated firearms found on school property and 20 found off-campus, the total for this year is approaching last year’s total of 49 guns seized.
Additionally, the police have also taken 131 knives this year.
