In 2018, Isabella Aiukli Cornell used Prom to make a statement: that the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls would not be forgotten. She asked the dress' designer, Della BigHair-Stump (Crow), to join her in creating a red dress with a cultural design on top. The crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women (#mmiw) continues today. According to the CDC, the murder rate of Indigenous women living on reservations is 10x the national average and it's the third leading cause of death. Actions like Cornell's, and others, continue to bring light to this issue and inspire others to do the same. Cornell's dress is now part of the National Museum of American History. #nativeamericanheritagemonth #nativeamerican #nativeamericans #nativeamericanhistory #nativeamericanculture #nativeamericanstyle #nativeamericanbeauty #indigenouspeoplesday #nativeamericanart #nativeartist #nativeamericanindian #rolemodels #rolemodel #rebelgirl
