After sustaining a spinal cord injury during a motorcycle accident in 2001, Oz Sanchez discovered handcycling. Fast forward 20 years and he’s a decorated athlete -- having won six medals across three Paralympic Games.
"When I first started riding, literally just going around the block was a feat in and of itself," he tells CNN Sport. "But it made me feel so alive because of the adrenaline and the blood pumping and just the feel-good chemicals of working out.”
The birth of his son in September means Sanchez now has to balance training with the emotional pull of being at home. But with the Tokyo Paralympics in sight, he says he’s still eyeing on competing in the 2028 Games in Los Angeles (📷Gareth Copley/Getty Images).
