In many cities vehicles—not people—rule the roads. #Bangkok, Thailand 🇹🇭 too is filled with automobiles and motorbikes.
With support from the Partnership for Healthy Cities, bangkok_bma, urban planners, and public health officials are making changes to create safer travel options for all road users.
The historic Bamrung Mueang neighbourhood, one of the city’s busiest areas, has undergone a series of urban design changes to make the #streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists. These are:
✅ an increase of sidewalk space
✅ installation of plastic bollards to protect pedestrians and influence the way people drive
✅ restriping of roads to indicate turning lanes and marking the pedestrian crosswalks
✅ traffic calming measures
Silpa from the #Thailand Walking and Cycling Institute talks about how these changes encourage residents to opt for active mobility. #Cities4Health bloombergdotorg vitalstrategies
