By 2011, India went from having the highest number of polio cases in the world to eliminating the disease completely. Millions of frontline health workers successfully vaccinated more than a hundred million children in homes, health clinics and even in train stations. Every vaccinator was a hero for helping to get rid of polio from the second most populous country in the world, a role that continues today with the use of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) which keeps the virus at bay
This photo is part of gavialliance photo exhibition “Vaccine Heroes” currently ongoing in Geneva, Switzerland, to celebrate health care workers who work every day to build brighter futures for children.
