Jet engines don’t push air backward.
They turn air into controlled explosions ✈️🔥
Engineers summarize it with one unforgettable phrase:
SUCK → SQUEEZE → BANG → BLOW
Here’s what’s actually happening inside a jet engine 👇
⸻
🌀 1. SUCK (Intake)
Air is pulled into the engine by the fan and compressor blades.
At cruising speed, a jet engine can ingest over 1 ton of air per second.
This incoming air is slowed and straightened so it can be compressed efficiently.
⸻
📦 2. SQUEEZE (Compression)
Rows of rotating and stationary compressor blades increase air pressure 20–40×.
This compression is critical — fuel won’t burn efficiently without it.
Modern engines use axial compressors with up to 30 stages, each adding pressure.
⸻
🔥 3. BANG (Combustion)
Fuel is injected and ignited — but here’s the surprise:
The flame never explodes and never goes out.
It burns continuously in a carefully controlled vortex at ~2,000°C.
Only ~25% of the oxygen is used — the rest is saved for cooling.
