When @Aryna Sabalenka was younger, she would feel guilty whenever she wasn’t on the court practicing. It was all tennis, all the time. From an early age, her coaches said, “‘You have to work hard. Only tennis. Only tennis. You cannot go out with your friends,’” she says. “And I think that really affected a lot of the mentality.” But as the pressure kept building, she realized that she needed to strip down these beliefs, to draw a clearer line between her on-the-court and off-the-court lives, and to understand that there wasn’t anything inherently bad about having fun.
