On a random July, 2016 day in South Dakota after an underwhelming day of storm chasing begins one of my favorite stories while on the road. With still being jobless after my long hike on the Pacific Crest Trail I along side with my friends Scott and Stephen decided to explore Badlands National Park as the sun faded across the horizon. Stars shining bright above the sky. With the Milky Way so crisp you could see the well defined galaxies in the core thanks to the near zero light pollution and lightning flashing off way on the horizon from departing storms in Nebraska. It didn't seem it could get better. We couldn't find a camping spot, so we found a scenic overlook, rolled out our sleeping bags and cowboy camped at the pull off. Then...as we began to get settled. A surprise northern lights display appeared from the horizon and began to dance. We watched as the auroras danced until the sun came up, and this view is what we were greeted to. .
