Happy Halloween! 👻
We talk alot about EQ in regards to CRNA school prep. Your ability to be aware of your emotions and how it affects your response and actions in any situation is not a skill that everyone has.
Why is EQ so important, and why is it one of the qualities we assess for most in future CRNAs?
Well, the OR is full of personalities, for one. You have to be able to work well with others, in high stakes situations. You also have to be able to be assertive in a tactful way, that moves conflicts towards a resolution, most often quickly.
Second, as a student you're going to be encountering some strong personalities - yes, us CRNAs too. You have to be able to keep calm and push propofol.
Working well in a team setting, and the ability to get along with others is one of the best qualities that you can have. If you are on your unit causing drama, being the "mean girl" or constantly find yourself in the center of conflict, you probably won't do well in CRNA school...
