175 years ago today, Hawaiʻi celebrated the end of British occupation with a ceremonial raising of the Hawaiian flag. Since then, July 31st has been celebrated as a national holiday in Hawaiʻi known as Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, celebrating the return of Hawaiian sovereignty.
