Hess is the executive director at Arcadia Farms, located half an hour outside Washington, D.C. The farm grows thirty different vegetable crops that are sold at ten mobile markets in D.C. neighborhoods where people don’t have easy access to fresh food. In the city’s lowest income neighborhoods, they have seen a 500 percent increase in demand. As Pam says in the fifth episode of What’s Eating America, “there is a whole section of Washington, there’s a whole section of the country, that can’t make a good choice because they don’t have a good choice.”
