NOBODY in France says THAT!,” said my French friends when I first arrived in & fell in ❤️ with this country almost 30 years ago. “That’s an Anglo invention... This is the Quatorze Juillet (14th July)! 🇫🇷 . Et voilà. In France, the words “happy” & “Bastille (prison)” are a contradiction in terms, non? This holiday isn’t celebrating a prison that signified an era of terror and a royal institution starving everyone. It’s pretty much an insult to say. . So if today’s celebration isn’t about the storming of the Bastille prison (although it did take place on the 14th of July 1789 which marked the beginning of the French Revolution)... what the heck is it? . In fact it is actually ALL about the NEXT year on July 14, 1790 when they held a 4-day fete de la federation party to celebrate the unity of the French people with 🔥 fireworks, lots of wine 🍷 and running 🏃 NAKED (yes you read that right) through the s...
