A tip of the cap to all the dads out there. Like many immigrants, my dad came here with a few mere dollars and a simple dream: a better life for him and his future family. Whether it be as cook in whatever restaurant would let him fire up a wok or a SF MUNI bus driver, my dad always had a hat on. It is his signature fashion piece, although he claims it’s to keep his head from going cold. Either way, my dad wears a lot of hats. Growing up, I never knew why my dad wore so many hats. Until I asked him if he wanted to do this shoot. He says, “I got my hats for free. I don’t buy hats.” It makes sense now. He’s always representing random banks (many don’t exist anymore), tourist destinations like Pebble Beach (he doesn’t golf) and obscure sports teams (he only follows the Warriors)— a brand ambassador before there was even such a thing. 🤣 I still don’t know all the stories underneath those hats of his. I hear rumblings about him swimming ten hours from Guangdong to Hong Kong. I watched...
