So, let’s take some time to learn more about what our bovine beauties eat!! 😋🐮
And let’s clear this up quick…
Did you know that 86% of the feed that is fed to the global livestock population is inedible by humans? (Check out sustainabledish for even more good info!!)
So that means that these dairy cows are consuming some products that we don’t use (otherwise would be food waste), and then turning that into an incredibly nutrient dense (and delicious) product that can feed millions! Pretty cool right?!
A lot of the inedible products cows eat are by products from the human food industries! It varies depending on what part of the country your farm is in, but some common by products cows eat in Florida include- cottonseed hulls and meal, canola meal, dried distillers grain and citrus pulp 🍊
