More than a century and a half after troops arrived in Galveston, we celebrate freedom for all Americans. Over the weekend TxDOT joined a #Juneteenth23 celebration with descendants of Tom Cook, a formerly enslaved man who owned a blacksmith shop in Bolivar. TxDOT archaeologists recently unearthed his shop, helping tell his story that had been lost to history.
