Since there was no avoiding the haze and smoke from the Canadian wildfires here in Indy, I took the opportunity to capture some of it with the drone.
Seeing the smoke from the fires make it all the way to the Midwest got me interested in researching a little bit about the the whole situation.
Here’s a few facts I learned that I found interesting:
- Canada’s wildfire season typically runs from May-October but is already on track to have one of its most destructive wildfire seasons in history.
- The Canadian Wildland Fire Information System has stated that the destruction from these fires up to this point in the season have been 13 times worse than the 10-year average.
- More than half of Canadian Wildfires are started by lightning; most of the rest are caused by humans. Harsh conditions and abnormal dryness in the regions is what keeps fueling the fires to rage on.
