Yesterday we were talking about why it's important for hockey players to incorporate a variety of movement patterns not just the usual squats and deadlifts.
By targeting hockey-specific movement patterns off the ice, players will develop the necessary strength, agility, balance and power for on-ice effectiveness. This is what we call functional hockey strength because it translates directly to on-ice performance.
Single leg exercises, like the split squat in this video, are a necessary addition to your lower body training.
It should also include more advanced exercises like plyometrics that train explosive power and are the key to becoming a faster, more powerful skater.
Watch your feed for a post on what you can do off the ice to unlock new speed levels on the ice.
Summer Hockey Training camp featuring the PEAK POTENTIAL training system is starting up July 5th. Link in bio for more info.
