In the 1980s, Prop Plaza (Hollywood Terrace) was primarily utilized during busy holidays or peak periods. Nowadays, while the area remains unchanged, it no longer serves as a stop on the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood. Instead, its role has been taken up by concession stands and restaurants on the Upper Lot (Entertainment Center).
As one of the few places on the Universal Studios backlot that is completely off the Studio Tour, Prop Plaza (Hollywood Terrace) has become a convenient location for productions to set up a base camp. The cast and crew of Desperate Housewives, for instance, used it as a production base while filming on Colonial Street, also known as Wisteria Lane.
