Over 90 years ago, business owners, local school leaders, and hardworking citizens came together to enhance the educational opportunists for this region. This week, over $1 million in future scholarships are offered to students from Ouachita Parish, Louisiana to continue that mission. In collaboration with Monroe City Schools, Ouachita Parish Schools, and United Way of Northeast Louisiana, ULM is laying the foundation for 3rd graders to be successful in elementary school. ULM provided a book, authored and beautifully illustrated by ULM staff, to over 2,000 3rd graders in Ouachita Parish. Printed on the first page of the book was a “2031 Centennial Scholarship” award, amounting to $500. The students can present these inaugural books to ULM’s scholarship department when they are college freshmen in 2031, which also marks ULM’s 100th anniversary.
