Every year, thousands of hikers attempt to trek the Appalachian Trail. Only one in four completes the entire journey. *** Last year, Georgia Tech alumna Lily Sandler began her nearly 2,200-mile journey in Pennsylvania with a fellow Yellow Jacket graduate. The two split paths 10 days in. Lily hiked over 1,000 miles on her own to the northern terminus in Maine, earning the trail name “Timeless” after her broken watch. Wanting to finish the trail, Lily rented a car, drove back to Pennsylvania, and began trekking south. Some 1,200 miles later, she completed her journey at Springer Mountain in Georgia. Looking back on the experience a year later, Lily said that her time at Georgia Tech and her involvement with Outdoor Recreation Georgia Tech (ORGT) prepared her for the arduous hike.
