Swimmers take part in a winter swimming competition held by Merewether Mackerels swimming club at Merewether Ocean Baths in Newcastle, Australia. Winter swimming enthusiasts met at Merewether Ocean Baths, united in their "love-hate relationship" for the cold water. Usually, around 50 brave people turn up to swim at the baths in Newcastle every Sunday during winter, as members of the Newcastle social swimming club, the Merewether Mackerels. On this day they were joined by swimmers from other clubs from Sydney to the mid north coast, as Merewether played host to the Northern Districts meeting. The Mackerels were founded in 1972 as a male-only swimming club but now has almost more women than men, and multiple generations from the same families. After the social races, the members get together for a cup of hot soup. The swimmers meet from May to September at the Merewether baths, which are the largest ocean baths in the southern hemisphere. | July 02, 2023 | 📷️: Roni Bintang - ronibintang...
